Who this policy covers

This policy applies to Property Assurance, an independent Australian information service, and to the personal information we handle when you contact us or request a check.

What information we collect

We collect the information you give us directly - such as your name, email address, and the details of the property or builder you ask us to look up - together with limited technical information (for example, basic analytics about pages visited) needed to operate the site.

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use our site; sessions may be recorded, with any typed personal information masked.

How we handle public-register data

A check reads public licence, company and insurance registers and reports what they held at the time we read them. That register data is already public and is about businesses and licences, not about you. We attach the source and the retrieval date to every figure, and we do not characterise any named business - we report the record as it stands.

How we use your information

We use your information to prepare and deliver the report you asked for, to respond to your enquiry, and to keep records of the checks we have run. We do not sell personal information.

Direct marketing and opt-out

If we ever send you material about our service, every message will offer a simple way to opt out, and we will act on your request promptly. You can also opt out at any time by emailing privacy@propertyassurance.com.au.

Disclosure

We disclose personal information only to the service providers that help us operate (for example, email or hosting), and only as needed to deliver the report. Where a provider stores data outside Australia, we take reasonable steps to see that it is handled consistently with the APPs.

Access and correction

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate or out of date. Contact us at privacy@propertyassurance.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable period.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and we retain it only as long as needed for the purposes above or as the law requires.

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, contact us first at privacy@propertyassurance.com.au. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page.
